The National Accounting Talent Search Programme was officially launched in 2011 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The initiative is aimed at identifying talents among Grades 11 and 12, accounting learners across the 14 regions. The programme also intend to nurture the learners and keep them in close contact with prospective sponsors, furthermore the programme aims to enhance awareness about the accounting profession to the grade 11 and 12 learners. BDO Namibia was the Founding Sponsor of this initiative; EY Namibia has been the Main Sponsor since 2012 to date.
Since inception, over 4 000 learners from over 200 schools country wide have participated in this programme. It has been noted that, the majority of NATS participants (winners) ultimately end up pursuing our CA Programme here at UNAM, a clear indication that NATS indeed serves as a good marketing tool more especially for our CA Programme. NATS is governed by a Board which is made up of representatives from: UNAM, ICAN, Ministry of Education, ABAN and Schools. In 2017 competition, 835 learners from over 47 schools country wide have participated in this programme.
The learners write an examination that consists of 40 multiple choice questions of Higher & Ordinary levels. The learners write the NATS exam at their respective schools. The moderation and marking of NATS exam is done at UNAM, after the exam is marked there is always an awarding ceremony that takes place in Windhoek and each year, UNAM covers the following for the National and Regional Winners, only: Accommodations, Meals, and Transport Fees (to and from Windhoek based on public transport charges), the winners are allowed be accompanied by a maximum of, two (2) parents/guardians, and two (2) teachers.
