A warm welcome to the University of Namibia (UNAM): Khomasdal Campus (KHC), a “Home away from Home” for all students (both local and international). Khomasdal Campus concentrates on Early Childhood Education, Pre- Primary Education as well as Primary Education. Our vision is to become ‘a Developmental Centre of Excellence that strives to nurture and produce competent teachers who are relevant in the 21st century’. This vision enables us to directly address the University Strategic Plan (USP) 2011-2020, the fourth National Development Plan (NDP4) and the country’s National Vision 2030.
In view of our focus areas, we believe that quality higher education training for teachers who will work in Pre- Primary and Lower (junior) Primary school phases is a pre-requisite for a successful national schooling system. Clearly, primary education lays the foundation for all learning in the years to come. In this regard, we also unequivocally place primary education, the backbone for further development in a child’s education, as an enabler of economic development. Our nation and our system of education has a mandate to make available and promote equitable access to quality education for its people. The teacher’s role in achieving this is critical. The role and responsibility of a “teacher” is therefore irreplaceable, irreversible, and irreducible. This vision demands that we provide our children with competent, qualified and committed teachers so that their education should not be compromised. We seek to promote a Namibian system of education that is equitable, relevant, responsive, meaningful, of high quality; and one that is conducted in a democratic and stimulating environment.
At KHC, we educate teachers with a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy, communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills in all other areas included in the primary school curriculum. We are a fully-integrated staff supported by latest innovations in Information and Technology materials supporting of teaching and learning for our future teachers. Our programs are of quality and they offered within a thought-provoking atmosphere. We also value students’ democratic participation and promote responsible citizenry for one’s own personal development and for nation building. Studying at KHC will be a truly rewarding experience. Undoubtedly, I would like to welcome you to KHC and please Feel at Home.
