It is a pleasure and a privilege for me to welcome you to the website of the University of Namibia School of Medicine (UNAMSoM). As the academic and administrative leader of this young and vibrant School, I am honoured to be working together with a team of dedicated and industrious health professionals and academics to build a first-class medical school. We have designed a stimulating and an enriching learning experience that will prepare students to be the 7-star doctors of tomorrow – doctors who will not only be proficient and culturally–sensitive care-givers, communicators and decision–makers, but, astute managers, community leaders, researchers/innovators, and life-long learners.
The challenge for the UNAMSoM is to produce the doctor who will be committed to providing adequate cost-effective and efficient care that will assist individuals their families, and communities to achieve optimum health and make informed choices for their well-being. Graduates of UNAMSoM will be advocates for health and health-related causes in their communities and play leadership roles to enhance community life. They will also participate in research for health and apply research findings in their practice of medicine.
The UNAMSoM is determined to make an impact on the delivery of healthcare in Namibia and beyond. We are committed to "inspiring minds and shaping the future" of our students, our communities, and, our country! The School's mantra – "In the pursuit of Health for All" – enjoins us to vigorously and assiduously pursue issues of Transformative Learning for the best educational and training outcomes. We have, therefore, in addition to designing a curriculum that is relevant to societal needs, provided, through the generosity of the Government and People of Namibia, a conducive and salubrious physical and other infrastructural facilities to enhance teaching, learning and research.
